About us

Who we are
At Woodford Pre-School we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage to help meet your child’s educational steps. This is achieved through weekly planning and focus activities to give the children opportunities to experience and develop their learning.
We also focus on supporting the children’s emotional needs to play with others, make choices, broaden their experiences and build their self confidence. We are registered to take children from 2 to 4 years old. We also offer 1:1 support for children who may need more help with development and SEN children.
We embrace children:
- With English as an additional language
- With behavioural difficulties
- With special educational needs
- With special dietary requirements
- From different ethnic backgrounds

How we work
A key person is assigned to your child to support your child’s transition into our pre-school. They will nurture and support your child emotionally. Your key person is responsible for monitoring their progress in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. The Key person is available for discussion if you have any questions and you will be invited to look at their profile book and discuss their progress throughout the school year.
Their Profile book will go with the children as a memory when they leave our setting. Woodford Pre-School is a non-profit parent run Charity, therefore all money made is reinvested into the pre-school, allowing us to continually purchase new equipment and educational resources for the children.

What’s a typical day like at Woodford Pre-school?

Once children have been checked in, we come together as a group for circle time to sing our Hello, Days of the Week and Please and Thank You songs. We always finish circle time with a positive reminder of our golden rules. Children then have free play which gives them the opportunity to make choices and play with their peers.

Children have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities including creative craft work and messy play. We also provide opportunities to explore physical play, small world, puzzles and mark making with mixed media. Additionally, children are given the opportunity to go into our side room in smaller groups to experience more focused activities.

At 10:30 children sit down together in a sociable snack time setting where they can choose from a range of healthy snacks. These include fruit, toast and pitta with a choice of milk or water to drink. Children are encouraged to tidy away their cups and bowls when leaving the table. Children then join in with music, singing and instruments.

At 11:30 children help with tidy up time before going into our large garden for outside play, before returning to the hall at 12:00 to listen to a story, and join in with music, singing and instruments.

Parents/carers come to collect their children at 12:15

Learning journals
In Early Years, observations of children form a key part in assessing their knowledge and interests. It also allows us to capture quotes directly from the children, which over time demonstrate how children are developing in their Speech and Language skills. Staff at the Pre-School regularly observe children at play that relates to different areas of learning, for example Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; and Physical Development.
Our Learning Journals provide a snapshot of your child’s learning journey, friendships and social skills during their time with us at the Pre-School. And when your child is ready to go off to ‘Big School’, their Learning Journals are sent home and serve as a wonderful reminder of all the lovely things they learnt with us!
